Swindles! Swindles! Frauds!

On my first trip to Thailand, I was very excited as I walked through the hustle and bustle of bustling streets, admiring the beauty and sounds of the country. Before I knew it, I had fallen prey to a few scams that were specifically targeted at tourists.

I was an awful way to start your trip to Thailand. The darker side of tourism, with overpriced taxi fares and fake tourist attraction tickets.

Since then, I’ve started a habit of reading up on scams before every trip.

Invest in Travel Safety Insurance

Buying travel safety insurance isn’t the most exciting part of planning a trip, but it’s a decision I’ll never regret. I remember a trip where I had to cancel my flight due to unforeseen circumstances. Fortunately, I had comprehensive travel safety insurance, so I didn’t have to deal with the hassle of rebooking hotels and changing travel plans. It’s a small investment that gives you peace of mind, so you can travel with confidence.

Understand Your Insurance Coverage

Before embarking on any new adventure, it’s important to understand the ins and outs of your insurance coverage. From personal experience, I’ve learned that not all insurance policies offer the same coverage. That’s why I’m a firm believer in Medjet’s comprehensive security and emergency response coverage. Knowing I have dependable help in every situation allows me to explore without fear.

Save Emergency Contacts

Emergency contacts can be a lifesaver when you’re thousands of miles away. I save my insurer’s contact information on my phone, and I email it to myself for immediate access. I also keep physical copies of my passport and driver’s license so I’m always ready in case of an emergency.

Utilize Google Maps

Getting lost in a foreign city is part of the fun, but having a backup plan can make all the difference. I carefully map out important places like hospitals, embassies, police stations, etc. on Google Maps after I’ve booked my accommodation. It’s a simple yet effective way to navigate a foreign city with ease.

Safety Traveler Apps

One of the biggest changes I’ve seen in my life has been enrolling in programs, downloading safety apps, and staying informed. For example, on one of my most memorable trips, I got a security alert in the middle of the night about a political rally that was happening near where I was staying. The app helped me stay on top of the situation and make changes to my travel plans to avoid any potential risks.

Stay Informed via Social Media

Following my country’s embassy and local news channels on social media is now an important part of my travel planning. Recently, I was alerted to a sudden weather warning and had to change my travel safety plans accordingly. It’s a smart way to stay informed and make sure your trip is safe and enjoyable.

Financial Security

Every traveler’s worst nightmare is to lose their wallet on the road. That’s why I always carry cash with me. When my luggage got stolen in a busy market, I had no choice but to carry cash and a credit card.

Look for local insights

One of the best things about traveling is meeting people and hearing their stories. On one of my last days in the city, I was pleasantly surprised to meet a friendly and helpful hotel receptionist. She gave me some great tips on how to stay safe in the city. Not only did she help me stay safe, but she also helped me better understand the culture and lifestyle of the area.

Guard Your Privacy

I’ve learned to be careful about sharing too much on social media platforms, especially when it comes to real-time information. Keeping specific location information to myself is a great way to avoid unwanted attention or scams. It’s a small but important precaution that lets me explore confidently and safely.

These personal experiences and travel safety tips will help you prepare for unforgettable adventures while keeping your safety and well-being in mind. Have a safe trip, explorer!
